Australian citizenship interviews on hold, but applications continue to be accepted

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has made several changes to processes for citizenship to accommodate for the COVID-19 pandemic.

For those who have an upcoming citizenship interview

Unfortunately, interviews have been put on hold for the time being. The DHA has said additional resources will be deployed to conduct interviews as soon as social distancing measures ease  - exactly when this will be is unknown.

Those who were scheduled to attend a citizenship appointment will be contacted to make alternative arrangements over the next few months.

For those planning to lodge a citizenship application

Applications for Australian citizenship are still being accepted. However, applicants should note that citizenship testing and interviews are still on hold. Until social distancing measures have been lifted, applications will continue to experience some delay.

For those awaiting their citizenship ceremony

Due to social distancing requirements, citizenship ceremonies will be held online via secure video link, to enable people to continue to become Australian citizens during the coronavirus crisis.

The DHA has started trialling one-on-one ceremonies for those already approved for Australian citizenship. Special consideration will be given to individuals who cannot access the internet, to ensure their ceremony can occur safely in line with health advice.

We can help you along the pathway towards Australian citizenship.
